When you travel around a lot and still have loads of transactions waiting for you at work, the Internet provides a means for juggling all these at once. With the limitless gateways of the Internet, you can access your files, send and receive correspondence, even talk with other people by simply opening your email account.
But if you can’t send those important emails and always get an error message at Outlook, then you might want to check your SMTP settings . SMTP which also stands for Simple Mail Transfer Protocol is the Internet Standard for electronic mail or e-mail transmission across Internet Protocol (IP) networks. But since not all SMTP servers work outside your local area, thus you might need to update your SMTP with a global server that will better suite your needs and transactions.
No need to worry, configuring your email with a new SMTP is easier that it sounds. And here are tips for configuring your SMTP settings at Outlook 2010:
1. First, you need to choose the File Tab, and then select Info.
2. Choose account settings. After clicking account settings, a list will appear, from the list click the dropdown that says Account Settings.
3. Again, you will find a list and from the list, find your email account on the list and click “change.”
4. Then, select the Outgoing mail server (this is the SMTP server) and change it your SMTP Provider’s mail server. Some sites recommend SMTP2Go. Next, click the option “more settings.”
5. From the options, choose “outgoing server.” Then confirm the “My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication” is NOT selected. Next, you can click “Advanced” tab.
6. You then have to change the Outgoing server (SMTP) Port Number to 2525. Note: other ports that are allowed are 25, 587 or 8025. Next, select “none” for the setting “use the following type of encrypted connection.”
If what you’re using is Outlook 2007, the steps are more or less the same. You can change your SMTP settings for Outlook 2007 by considering the following steps:
1. Click the Tools menu in Outlook and select “Account settings.”
2. Then, select your email account and click Change.
3. Check if the email address listed under “E-mail Address” is the same address you registered at your SMTP server provider. Next, change the Outgoing mail server or SMTP settings to the appropriate domain (e.g. SMTP2Go.com). Do not change the Incoming mail server settings. Then click the tab “More Settings.”
4. Afterwards, click the “Outgoing Server” tab and disable “My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication.” Click on the “Advanced tab.”
5. And finally, change the Outgoing server (SMTP) Port number to 2525. Other ports such as 25, 587 and 8585 can also be used. And for “Use the following type of encrypted connection” select None.
Hopefully, these tips can help you with your email sending problems. It’s only a matter of tweaking your SMTP settings a bit. After that, you can continue on juggling travel and work.
